When God Changes Your Perspective

Monday, March 24, 2014

Here is the story of the Holy Spirit moment that brought me to you.

I don't know if you've ever heard of the TV show 'House Hunters': on this show people are looking for a new home and the show gives them three choices.  At the beginning of the show, they give the viewers a tour of the city to which they will be moving.

One day I watched an episode involving a young married couple in Australia.  The wife was Australian and the husband was Indian.  He was a musician and decided that he wanted to move back to his hometown and get involved in the indie music scene there.  So they were looking for a home in Mumbai.

At the beginning of the episode, the show took the viewers on a tour of Mumbai.  I was taken aback by the squalor.  There were people everywhere.  I said out loud (and I am ashamed of it and will never forget this moment ever), "Who would move there willingly!"

These words were barely out of my mouth when I felt this overwhelming grief, but not from me, it was coming from my upper abdomen area.  And it was overwhelming, so much so, that I looked down there.  When I looked down, I got a picture in my mind of our Lord Jesus and He was looking out a window at Mumbai.  He was just wailing and bringing His hands up to His face.  He was sobbing so hard!

I will never forget this, never get over this, and never let Dharavi go.  Those children matter that much to the King of the Universe!  And I don't want Him to cry anymore.

Traveling On My Knees

TRAVELING ON MY KNEES

Last night I took a journey                              And so I did; knelt in prayer,

To a land across the seas.                            Gave up some hours of ease,

I didn’t go by ship or plane                             And with the Savior by my side,

I traveled on my knees.                                   I traveled on my knees.

I saw so many there                                        As I prayed on, I saw souls saved

In bondage to their sin,                                   And twisted person healed,

And Jesus told me I should go.                    I saw God’s workers strength renewed

That there were souls to win.                        While laboring in the field.

But I said “Jesus, I can’t go                            I said “Yes Lord. I’ll take the job.

To lands across the seas.”                            Your heart I want to please.

He answered quickly, “Yes, you can              I’ll heed Your call and swiftly go

By traveling on your knees.”                            By traveling on my knees.”

He said, “You pray, I’ll meet the need         - Sandra Goodwin

You call, and I will hear.

It’s up to you to be concerned

For lost souls far and near.”

Reaching At-Risk Children in Nepal

Thursday, March 06, 2014
Recently our missionaries in Nepal sent a summary of the many things they were able to accomplish through the support and advocacy received from the Children At Risk program. Below is part of their summary:

We had Training for Awana leaders in two different slums with participation of 62 leaders representing 39 churches and 194 kids saved during the year. We have also conducted 16 Kids Camps for children at risk. Altogether 2,961 kids attended those camps where 512 children made a salvation decision. We were able to train the leaders from four transit shelters. Also tuition classes are being conducted in 4 different slums and for brick factory’s worker’s kids.

Successes and Challenges

We aimed to conduct 13 pre-Christmas programs and reach among 2740 children. Praise to our Almighty Lord that we were able to reach among 2961 children where 512 children made salvation decision. We are also running tuition classes among 70 children.

Lessons Learned

Through our events, many street children are getting shelter, food, clothes, and education. More than this, they are growing in Christ. Seeing the happiness in the eyes of these children and because of the love of our Christ, we are encouraged more to work among the children @ risk. We have also realized that it is more effective when we have some partners. So, in the future we will always look for some partners for each location.

Greatest Need

We have just started the construction of Awana Hope center building. The property is located near 10 brick factories where many families work for a meager wage. Among these families are 700- 900 children, who live in dire conditions and are in desperate need of intervention to have real hope for the future. So, the pressing need for this year is to complete this project. Thank you for your support and prayers. Please keep us supporting through your prayers and financially.

Collaboration and Networking

We are doing our programs among the children @ risk in the collaboration with Trans World Radio and Allow the Children. Tuition classes are being conducted in a partnership with TWR among the slum, brick factory and the mukta kamaiya children and also we are collaborating with TWR in Radio Ministry. Allow the children, is financially supporting the children of Action Love Home and the street and slum children.

Evaluation Results

We have recently conducted pre-Christmas programs in different parts of Nepal among the under privileged children. We were blessed throughout the event. Altogether 2,961 kids attended those camps where 512 children made salvation decision. We have found that children-at-risk are more receptive to gospel compare to normal kids. I really like it because it’s a holistic approach.

Additional Information

We hosted pre-Christmas outreach programs for under privileged kids in different places of Nepal. We had the opportunity to reach kids of brick factory migrant workers, slum kids, and street children. God has also opened the door to reach kids in a public school. This special Pre-Christmas program was fruitful.

Testimony from Tanzania

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

Below is the testimony of an attendee from a 4-14 forum in Magole Morogoro:

From Dismas - with World Vision at Magole ADP:

I thank the Holy Spirit who put this zeal to participate in this event. It changed my vision and gave me a new perception about Children ministry. We have been partnering with many organizations, but not one of them had a big contribution and scheduled time table like I observed within Awana. I promise to start increasing my time and effort to this ministry; I’m also ready to encourage pastors to implement the program and will help in doing the follow up.
